We’re Part of the Solution

"Did you know that the average American generates 4.4 pounds of trash per day? That totals 230 million tons per year. We're the Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association and it's up to our members, the private-sector waste haulers and landfill operators of Pennsylvania, to collect and dispose of this volume of waste on a daily basis—and to do it safely and efficiently. We're proud to be part of the solid waste management solution."

Tim O'Donnell, President, Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association

Our Mission

  • Promote the efficient and environmentally safe management of solid waste
  • Advocate sound public policy affecting the management of solid waste
  • Communicate the benefits the waste industry provides to the people of Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Industry Profile

  • Forty-nine landfills and six resource-recovery facilities handle 14.7 million tons per year of non-hazardous waste from households and businesses within Pennsylvania and 10.4 million tons of waste per year from outside Pennsylvania.
