Generating vital revenues
In addition to the $3 billion in jobs, salaries, and spending it creates in
Pennsylvania, the waste industry adds $131.2 million per year in tax revenue to the state treasury.
This revenue is generated by $6.25 in state taxes paid per ton of trash:
• $2 per ton to the state Recycling Fund
• $4.25 per ton to the state Environmental Stewardship Fund
(Growing Greener)
The industry generates another $48.9 million per year in landfill host payments to municipalities:
• $2.33 (average) per ton of trash to host municipalities (generally used
to hold down property and other taxes on residents)
