An economic keystone
The waste industry benefits Pennsylvania in ways beyond providing the essential service of waste management. It creates jobs and salaries, spends money on goods and services, pays taxes, and generates
revenues for state and local governments. It also takes an active role in
the communities it serves—helping to meet local needs and support
civic projects.
The businesses involved in the collection, transport, and management of municipal solid waste together represent a “key component of the overall Pennsylvania economy,” according to an economic impact study conducted for PWIA by the Econsult Corporation, an independent firm.
